We spent maybe 15 minutes up top, then headed down. It was going to be a long walk out, 9 miles, in fact. we'd already done 14.1 miles and 9,000'+ vertical, according to the map. It was all downhill from here. For a long, long time.
James and I talked briefly about a plan. Again, we had brought light bivy sacks for an emergency, but sitting there, we both knew we didn't want to use them. I knew the walk out would be very painful, on account of the foot, but I thought the risk of exacerbating the injury and walking on out was probably a safer option than sleeping on it and finding I couldn't walk the next morning. So we decided to go. And we did.
Besides, we had to do this thing in a day. |
