Mt. Shasta, 25-28 May 2000

After we'd all made it back down to camp the two climbers who had initially sighted John - Eric Ekland and Michael Richards, both from San Francisco - descended the route and stopped by our campsite. They quietly sat on the slope for a few minutes, telling us they'd turned around due to high winds, saying little else. We all thanked them for helping us find John. Quite honestly, under the circumstances, we could have very easily simply walked right back down over the col, and if Em and Bruce hadn't continued up, we might not have found our friend. If the Jeffs and myself had gone for the summit, we would have done it in the dark, which also would have made finding John improbable. It just all worked out.
