John's body, as previously mentioned, was finally recovered by chopper on 30 May 2000. I got a call that evening from John Burns and he asked me to post a short report.

An autopsy on 1 June 2000 revealed John's cause of death as exposure. As such, it's hard for me to even bring myself to consider what might have happened up there on the mountain to John and Craig. Such pointless losses. I have so very many thoughts in my head, but I am overpowered by the need to sleep, finally, decently, in my own bed, where it's warm, for a little while. It has become glaringly clear to me how fortunate I am to be able to do just that.
