Mt. Shasta, 25-28 May 2000

Alpenglow on Mt. Shasta's Southwest Face. John once called Mt. Shasta "The Mountain of My Dreams."

The following was posted on the rec.climbing.useful forum by a family member on May 18, 2000:

"An account has been established in the memory of John Miksits, lost on his beloved Mount Shasta in April 2000. He leaves behind his wife, Doreen, and two children, Joey and Sarah. Contributions will help with immediate financial obligations incurred following his death.

Many of you have contributed your time, expertise, positive thoughts, and prayers throughout the search for John over the past five weeks. Doreen, Joey, and Sarah have been deeply touched by the extensive outpouring of support from this forum. They are eternally grateful."

Memorial services (otherwise known as "John's Party") for John were held 24 June 2000 at the Elks Lodge in Sacramento, CA. Hundreds of friends and family from all over the country came to celebrate John's life. A very touching gathering and a fitting tribute.
