Mr. Bumby plods.
The entrance to the gully is a couple hundred vertical feet up from the trail at the base of the mountain. I went out front and busted through waist-deep blown powder (it had been blowing steady at 145mph on Mt. Washington the day before and there were huge deposits everywhere; most of the routes in the valley were severely windblown hardpack with bottomless pits laying in wait here and there) for a very long time before we got on anything solid.
If you're looking for the entrance, it starts within mere feet of the sign that says: "Warning. Serious Avalanche Hazard. No Entry Beyond This Point."
You're going to want to go right past the sign...
I wish I had a picture. I was panting too hard to remember to take one.
