Top of Appalachian Gap, Green Mountain Stage Race, Stage Two. I knew it would be a very tough race for me. I did a respectable time trial, but fell off the back the next day in the circuit race. I managed to find a group of four who were intent on working to keep our damage on GC to a minimum. We rode well together to easily make the time cut. In the next day's road race, which ends on a fabled and difficult 10-mile climb, the last 500m of which is at 20% grade (see above), I rode conservatively, losing another huge chunk of time, but being pretty much okay with that. The final stage, a criterium, was over before it started. At the end of the day I was very glad to have ridden - and finished - the race. The field was supastrong.
