Mt. Hood Climb: 18 June 2000
South Side Route
Brett, myself and Jeff H. on the summit of Mt. Hood.

I had carried a small strand of Buddhist prayer flags in my pack and had promised to fly them on the summit for John and Craig, their families and friends if we should get to the top. And so we did.

Prayer flags are often seen flying in Asiatic mountain environments. On these flags are printed scriptures in Sanskrit. Buddhists believe that each time the wind blows a flag, that the prayer on that flag is carried up to heaven. It's really a beautiful thought. And the best thing is that there was a whole heck of a lot of wind on the top of Mt. Hood that day, so lots and lots of prayers travelled up to heaven for John and Craig, their families and friends.
